About Us

Al-Mu'Minun Islamic Center originally had the name Muhammad's Mosque #28. It was founded in 1957 as a Mosque under the leadership of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the Nation of Islam. With the ascent of Imam W.Deen Mohammed's leadership in 1975, the believers and leadership in the Mosques and Temples of Islam formerly in the Nation of Islam changed their beliefs and practices to comply with the Holy Quran and the Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet Muhammad). This included the then Muhammad's Temple #28 here in St. Louis. Currently, the Masjid/Islamic Center hosts a wide range of activities and services for the St. Louis Muslim and non-Muslim community.

The  Clara Mohammed School, which is located across the street from Al-Mu'Minun Islamic Center, also had its origins in the Nation of Islam with the previous name University of Islam. Now it is a full-time, G-d centered independent Islamic school (K-5). It offers the standard academic curriculum along with Islamic Studies and Quranic Arabic instruction..
